Today I get to blow out 45 candles!
Well, I would if someone would have bought or made a cake for me, and put as many candles on it as my age today. But no, this isn't happening. Because let's be practical… it would simply take way too long to lit those 45 candles, leading to dripping candle wax… you get the idea, not so tasty.
By the way, about that cake…. somewhere in the ageing process, there is an unexplicit switch where the birthday person gets cake, to that moment where the birthday person actually gives cake! Ever thought about this?!
So… today I can treat my colleagues with cake! It's lemon or apple cake.
Because yes, I am turning 45 today.
And – as it turns out – I now officially belong to the target group of the Belgian Collective Labor Agreement 104 “Employment plans for older employees”
Well ... as if I'm not already having a bit of trouble getting older?! Seriously! This really doesn't make a person happy, does it?!
Good, let's read objectively what that CLA 104 entails anyway.
CLA 104 is part of the Europe-2020 strategy of Belgium to achieve by 2020 a 50% participation rate for older workers aged 55 to 65. This CLA was declared generally binding by a Belgian Royal Decree.on 28 October 2012. The CLA 104:

The objectives are noble : to achieve by 2020 a 50% employment rate for older workers aged 55 to 65. So, I still have at least 20 years to go. Works for me! I'm not really occupied with my retirement just yet.
You know, this CLA 104 probably has a reason to exist, is surely necessary in certain sectors and professions. But as of 45?! I'm still so young! I'm still full of energy! I still want to learn so much! I know I can contribute so much more!
At no point in time have I ever had the feeling of 'being unable to keep up', of needing 'special measures'.
So dear CLA 104: “no, I don't feel addressed just yet!”
And I hope to keep it that way for many years to come!!
