Earlier this week, I received insightful feedback: "Your presence in this session significantly altered the atmosphere!" And that was a compliment, not the other way around 😊. And this made me reflect (not surprisingly). I've also seen it happening how the vibe in a meeting can change when one person starts speaking.
So how does one influence or create a vibe in a group? And what does it mean to intentionally bring a unique vibe?
Our vibe usually is not something we consciously think about. Yet, if you do, it can have powerful effects. Before stepping into a room or meeting, you could ask yourself: what kind of energy am I bringing today? That short moment of reflection, may actually make an impact that others (unconsciously) will feel and appreciate, even if they can’t quite put their finger on it.
The Power of Presence
Creating a vibe starts with presence. Being fully present, instead of distracted or anxious, makes people feel at ease. Whether you’re bringing calm, positivity, energy, enthusiasm, curiosity or action oriented modus, your vibe can alter the dynamics of any environment. It doesn’t mean loud energy; sometimes, it’s a quiet confidence or a warm openness that draws people in. When you stay true to yourself, people naturally respond to your energy. What Positive Vibe do I mean?
Curiosity : People sense when you're genuinely interested in them. Asking questions and listening intently can immediately shift the room’s tone to one of openness and connection.
·Smile : It’s simple, but powerful. Smiling, making eye contact, and using open body language invite others to feel comfortable and valued.
Humor: Even in serious settings, a little humor goes a long way. Bringing in a light-hearted comment can really relieve tension and facilitate to move forward, even for loaded or sensitive topics.
Noticing the Ripple Effect
The most fun part? The ripple effect. Once you bring that unique energy, others often respond to it – maybe they feel more relaxed, open up more, are more curious or enthusiastic. Creating a vibe is like dropping a pebble in water; the ripples expand outward, touching everyone else in the room. You may even notice that people begin to adopt a similar ton.
So, the next time you find yourself thinking, “Wow, I’m creating a different vibe in the room,” take a moment to enjoy it. You’re not only changing the energy – you’re making an impact!
I mostly remember:
Embrace the uniqueness you naturally bring. And be conscious about the impact you want to make
